Goodbye Animals by Liz Ash : Goodbye Sea Turtle.

We all carry stories. The experiences that we have in our lives make us who we are. Goodbye Animals is a hand illustrated series of 6 nearly extinct or endangered animals. What are the experiences of these animals? If they could tell their stories what would they say? Would we even listen?  I attempt to tell their stories in a visual narrative using ink and a collage format. The longer that you look at each animal, the more information you will uncover.

Meet Goodbye Sea Turtle. This Sea Turtle carries the stories of the sea to include nine other marine animals that are also endangered. Can you identify which animals they are?

Here are some facts about Sea Turtles:

  • Female Loggerhead Sea Turtles will travel thousands of miles just to lay their eggs in the same place that they themselves were born.
  • Sea Turtles are a part of a group of reptiles that have existed on earth and  traversed our seas for the last 100 million years.
  • Up to 100 other marine species live on the shells of sea turtles - their backs are a little country in themselves. The Sea Turtle has an integral purpose of keeping balance in the marine ecosystem.
  • The Loggerhead Sea Turtle is the largest of all sea turtles and the fourth largest modern reptile behind three crocodilians. They can measure up to 9 feet and weigh over 1000 pounds.
