Dear Santa,
In case you were wondering, this ultra glam 1939 Rolls-Royce Phantom III Cabriolet is on the top of my Christmas wish list. I cannot get enough of Parisian designer Jean Henri Labourdette’s sleek, sumptuous lines. This object of fantasy, now in the John Rich Museum collection, started off as a standard Phantom III designed by Henry Royce, and was completely transformed by Labourdette right before the second World War. Labourdette tore the car down to its bones, adorning the body with gold-plating and brass fixtures in a shape that stretched sensually from bumper to bumper. He also added his “Vutotal” system, an invention that gave the designer much fame, which aimed to increase visibility and security aboard an automobile by eliminating windshield mounts and side window frames. Basically, he started a major trend in 1939, when his convertibles no longer had any side or top frame for the windshield with the hood attached directly to the thick glass. Anyway, you probably know all this, Santa, but I just thought I’d let you know what I want so as to avoid any scrambling or indecision on your part. You can drop it off anytime between 10pm and 5am on Christmas Eve/Day, please leave the keys with the doorman and say they’re for me. (I don’t have a chimney, sry.)
Cookies, Organic Cashmere & Kisses,
Lizzie
